There are many different reasons behind why people decide to collect antiques. Some people collect antiques as a continuation of a hobby that they’ve had and followed ever since their childhood, such as those who collect football cards, coins or toys.

Other collectors develop an interest in antiques later during their adult life.  Often someone’s interest in antiques is sparked by an event, such as inheriting an item from a family member, like an antique wedding ring that is passed on in the family, from generation to generation.

Antique collecting as hobby is great fun but it can also be financially rewarding too. More often than not, an antique's value will increase over time, as long as it is properly cared for.

If you have a passion for antique collecting and do the necessary homework on antique buying, antique selling, and antique trading, then you may be able to transform your hobby into a lucrative business.

Homework is the key to making money from antique collecting!  You will have to study every aspect of the item(s) that you are collecting.  You will also need to know some basic antique collecting techniques such as how to date an antique, spotting a reproduction or fake antique, and being able to place an approximate value on an antique.

Once you’ve conducted your research, you’ll find almost instantly that you ability to spot bargain items is far improved, as is your ability to steer clear of junk and less desirable items, including fake antiques

There’s a lot to learn in antique collecting, and therefore it is highly recommended that when starting off, you focus your antique collecting in just one area. If you follow this advice, you will find that you will quickly become somewhat of an expert in your chosen area.

After little time at all you'll find yourself able to spot the rare, bargain antique items that you might normally overlook, enabling you to significantly increase the value of you antique collection.
